I still love this band. Don't remember much about this show though.

This is another of my all time favourite concerts. It was a carnival, with prize booths and games to play. The venue was decorated with lights and statues and signs. You knew you were going to see somthing special. This was their return to L.A. right after making it big on MTV. It was amazing.

1989 - Marc Almond - Pantages Theatre
This is one of the best shows I have ever seen. There will be a couple this year. I remember the red velvet curtain behind a throne sat in the middle of an otherwise empty stage. Marc came out in a crown and cape and did the entire show around those props. It was amazing. No Soft Cell songs but his solo material at this time was rich and full of that french story telling feel. I found online an review of the show from the L.A. Times. I will include it here. I wish I had found the set list though.
Almond's Cabaret Cocktail With a Twist of Mae West
Pop Capsules
April 24, 1989
CHRIS WILLMAN
Remember "Liza with a Z"? How about "Marc with a C"--as in Marc Almond, would-be heir apparent to Judy Garland, Jacques Brel and Frank Sinatra?
Opening a two-night stand at the Pantages on Friday, the fey British popster unveiled a highly theatrical show, revealing his weaknesses for German cabaret-style balladry and old-style show-biz oversinging while not forgetting the equally mannered modern techno-pop on which he made his name.
Though Almond ignored his Soft Cell material, which tended toward a kinkier side than his more sophisticated solo material, he's hardly given up pandering. "How good it must be in your . . . bed," he drawled in one song, with a spin on the phrase that was less Liza than Mae West--or Dr. Frank N. Furter.
Yet Almond can lay off the camp long enough to suggest hedonism-as-transcendence, a la (Depeche) Mode. A well-staged transition had him reciting the closing words of "The Sensualist"--"ecstasy, ecstasy, ecstasy"--and slumping back into a throne as lights began to spin round, suggesting the real ecstasy of a dizzy head. Then the band launched into "Tears Run Rings"-- sumptuous pop complete with "sighing angels."
Almond headlines the Celebrity Theater in Anaheim tonight.
It really was one of the best shows....
Update 04/29/10
In the comments for this show it was mentioned that we went to
meet Marc Almond at a signing at Tower Records.
I spent the afternoon searching through boxes till I found the
autograph. I am so thrilled that I still have it!
Also, here is a cd long box. These too were mentioned in a post.
I still have some of those!

1988 - Thomas Dolby - The Wiltern Theatre
Another of the Thomas Dolby shows. Still in love with "Golden Age of Wireless".
The Wiltern is such a beautiful venue. It is a great place to see a show.
1988 - The Damned - John Anson Ford Theatre
The Damned, Sham 69 and Tender Fury. This was an action packed show. Sold out. Again at one of my favourite venues. I remember punks sliding down the hill trying to get into the show. This one had a pretty nice mosh pit.
1988 - X - John Anson Ford Theatre
This was my first X show. Also, my first trip to the John Anson Ford Theatre which I love very much.
So old and full of history and such a great setting. Like a castle.
1988 - Rankin Roger - Bogart's
This show was during the English Beat's time. Very fun. I love ska. I always wanted fringe and to be able to dance like that!
1988- Sting - The Forum
1987 - Echo and The Bunnymen - The Forum
This show also had New Order and Gene Loves Jezebel. This was a fantastic show.
We had floor seats which I don't normally like but, we were on a riser so I could see
over everyones heads! I remember this tour had the bands rotate headlining. So you
didn't know who was going to open the concert and who would end the show.
My Concerts a story....
This is my life in concerts. Unfortunately, I don't remember some of the details about the shows and was hoping you, my friends, could help me remember the great shows. Just leave comments and keep the threads going and let’s hope we can relive some wonderful times. If you saw the show in another city please write your thoughts too! We would love to read them. The list won't always be chronological. It will at the beginning but will become more random as I find ticket stubs.
Of course there are concerts I wish I had the ticket stubs to;
My first concert was The Doors at the Hollywood Bowl on July 5, 1968. Wish I remembered it. I have seen the film so many times that it has become my memory.
I saw Three Dog Night and Eric Burdon and the Animals and Steppenwolf at the Long Beach Arena who knows when!
My sister took me to a local park rec room to watch her boyfriend’s band, The Zeke's. I just found their 7" the other day.
I went through a real nostalgic phase that has lasted my lifetime with my love of Frank Sinatra. I had the pleasure of seeing him three times. At the Universal Amphitheatre with Sarah Vaughn. When the Amphitheatre was outdoors. No roof! In 1975, all I wanted for my sixteenth birthday was to see Frank Sinatra. He played Caesars Palace. We had to go to the early dinner show because I was underage. The lights were dimmed, Frank had finished a song and the waiters were bringing out my birthday cake. He could see it from the stage and sang Happy Birthday to me! This is one of my most cherished memories. He played a charity event for the Long Beach Police Department in 1976. This was a big deal. A number of policemen had been killed in a very short time and Frank owned a distributing company that was based in Long Beach so he arranged to play a benefit show for the widows. It was fantastic!
I got to see the Jackson Five at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. Janet was a little girl and this was one of her first public appearances outside of the TV show. I have the dinner menu/program and will scan it as soon as I relocate it. Updated 05/09/10 - found them! Enjoy.
I saw Earth Wind and Fire numerous times in the 70's. Phillip Bailey has one amazing voice! But, this was an extension of my love of soul. I saw Diana Ross in Las Vegas and L.A. probably a half a dozen times. This was during and after her Lady Sings the Blues period. I loved The Temptations and saw them at a small venue during this time too.
I spent a lot of time in the Caribbean and the Bahamas during the 70's and really developed a love for reggae. I had the pleasure of seeing Bob Marley three times. I don't have the ticket stubs but I do have some blurry photos I took at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank on July 21, 1978. Peter Tosh came out and played with him. I saw Bob Marley again at UCLA on Nov. 23, 1979 and then when he joined Peter Tosh at the Roxy in Los Angeles in 1979. I saw loads of great reggae artists at the Bob Marley Festivals at the Long Beach Arena which I attended for years. In 1981, when Bob passed I took Bianca to her first concert. A Bob Marley Memorial show at MacArthur Park. It was a rushed affair to help the local reggae community grieve. Wish I knew who played at that. I could write a blog about my Bob Marley experiences!
When my daughter was young we had annual passes to Knott's Berry Farm and saw some wonderful concerts during their summer concert series. Weird Al, Brooks & Dunn, this was one of their first shows as a band and June Carter Cash.
Ok, lets start this blog! I will start putting the ticket stubs up and lets see what we all remember!
